Each week, the CMT show ‘CMT Top 20 Countdown‘ counts down the week’s Top 20 country music videos, interviewing artists in between and focusing on the best in current country. This week, Miranda Lambert‘s new video for her emotional single ‘Over You’ debuted on the show, and it broke a record by starting out at No.3 — the highest ranked video debut in the history of the program.
If you listen to country radio at all, and we know you do, you know to watch this video clip at your own risk. Toby Keith performed his can’t-ever-get-it-out-of-your-head catchy hit ‘Red Solo Cup’ today on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ and the audience seemed to love the creative drinking anthem. Keith even cut the music right in the middle of the song to really play up the part where he proclaims that the cup is more like a friend to him than anything.
It’s nothing new to hear of a country star bringing a special guest onstage to help with a song — in fact, it happens all the time. But sometimes said stars pull adorable little girls out of the audience to help them finish out their set at the Opry, and that’s an entirely different story. At his sold-out Grand Ole Opry show on Friday (March 9), Keith Urban did just that, adding a giant dose of adorable to the end of his performance.
Kristin Chenoweth has more than minted her country career after releasing a record in September and announcing her first-ever country tour, set to launch in May. The celeb who can claim the names actress, songstress and filmstress made a country music appearance on Sunday (March 11) singing a tune that’s not her own.
Trace Adkins has made his share of video and television appearances. The ‘You’re Gonna Miss This’ singer recently said that he’d like to costar in a film with fellow country talent Blake Shelton. And while we haven’t yet had the opportunity of seeing Shelton on the big screen, the Boot just released a new clip of the most recent Trace Adkins film, ‘Wyatt Earp’s Revenge,’ which you can view below.
Today (March 6), the Country Music Association announced that Garth Brooks will become one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, along with keyboardist Hargus “Pigg” Robbins and singer Connie Smith. It comes as no surprise, of course, that this once-in-a-lifetime honor is being bestowed upon the record-setting, hit-spreading country king.
It would seem that someone out in the media cosmos is randomly throwing out potential beaus for admittedly — nay, adamantly — single country sweetheart Taylor Swift, and each time they’re catching like wildfire. The teen sensation likely doesn’t have enough hours in the day to deflect all the dating rumors that have been thrown her way as of late. Every time she talks to a guy, meets him for dinner or glances up in his direction, she’s smacked with a dating question mark. And this time, her suspected match is NFL star Tim Tebow.
She’s the adorable 18-year-old from Brandon, Miss. who’s been compared to a young Reba McEntire, and on tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol,’ the young Skylar Laine minted her place in the competition with a killer rendition of the Faces’ song ‘Stay With Me.’ Written by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, the song perfectly matched Laine’s soulful voice.
February 26 would have been Johnny Cash‘s 80th birthday, and while the country legend is no longer here to celebrate the occasion with his fans, those fans have come up with more than one way to honor his memory. As a part of the legendary Austin City Limits TV show, country stars Kenny Chesney, Ronnie Dunn, Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson and more will be performing at Austin’s Moody Theatre to pay tribute with the ‘We Walk The Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash’ concert.
Dwight Yoakam was slated to play the part of the villain in the upcoming film ‘The Lone Ranger,’ but he has just walked away from the role due to conflicts in his schedule. The film — which has a celebrity cast of Johnny Depp as the American Indian Tonto, Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Tom Wilkinson as the evil railroad tycoon Latham Cole — will still go on without him.
At the Universal Music Group label luncheon show at Nashville’s Country Radio Seminar Wednesday (Feb. 22), George Strait surprised the Ryman audience with his guest appearance — but fellow star Vince Gill had a surprise of his own. Before launching into his song ‘The Red Words,’ the ‘Threaten Me With Heaven’ singer told the audience, which was full of radio personnel, that he was performing that day as a thank you to radio, since he is no longer an MCA recording artist (part of UMG).
Anytime you have two superstar musical or celebrity acts dating — or married, in this case (think Brad and Angelina or Faith and Tim) — it’s only a matter of time before that couple realizes the freedoms they have given up by being in the spotlight. While Miranda Lambert and her country hitmaker husband Blake Shelton have been well known for a couple of years now, Lambert admits that her husband’s standing appearance on ‘The Voice‘ has begun to change how normal their lives can be.
