Michael Nance, who competed on Season 8 of The Bachelorette in 2012, died after a 911 call to the Austin Police Department Monday (May 29), according to PeopleHe was 31.

A rep from the police department told People they received a call at 2 PM, and rushed to the scene to find Nance unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and while there is no official cause of death yet on record, foul play is not suspected.

An autopsy was scheduled for May 30, and results will likely come in within weeks.

Nance shared on The Bachelorette that he had a history of suffering from painkiller abuse, noting: "Right now, life is good, but I haven’t put as much focus on my love life because the way I was a couple years ago, no one would have wanted to be around me. I was addicted to prescription pain medicine. It all starts out fun and then somewhere along the road, it just turned into something else. It’s a vicious cycle and it ate away at me for a long time.”

Members of the Bachelor and Bachelorette worlds tweeted their heartache after learning of Nance's death.

“So sad waking up to the news about Michael Nance. Such a kind heart with so much talent. Sending prayers and love to his family and friends,” Emily Maynard, the star of the season on which Nance appeared, wrote, while fellow Season 8 contestant Sean Lowe noted "My heart breaks to hear about the passing of my friend Michael Nance. He was a sweet man with a kind soul. We all loved him on Bachelorette.”
