Brad Paisley's 5th Gear went gold in 2007, Elvis moved from Tupelo to Memphis in 1948 and Johnny Cash passed away on this date in 2003.

Here's the list for Today In Country Music History for 12 September, 2011.

  • Brad Paisley earned a gold album for 5th Gear in 2007.
  • Johnny Cash died at Nashville's Baptist Hospital of complications from diabetes in 2003, four months after the death of his wife, June Carter.
  • Brooks & Dunn claimed the top spot on the Billboard country chart with "How Long Gone" in 1998.
  • George Strait released his Strait Out Of The Box box set in 1995.
  • On his 63rd birthday, George Jones underwent triple bypass surgery at Nashville's Baptist Hospital in 1994.
  • Alan Jackson collected his first gold album for Here In The Real World in 1990.
  • As a result of a 20/20 television report, the official case surrounding the 1977 death of Elvis Presley was reopened in 1980.
  • Thirteen-year-old Elvis Presley moved with his parents from Tupelo, Mississippi, to Memphis in 1948.

Johnny loved to explore worlds outside the narrower confines of country music. Here is a video, recorded shortly before his passing, of his take on a Nine Inch Nails tune. I think it's one of the most haunting and powerful recordings he's ever done.
