There are times when you’re horrified, and times when you’re horrified… Such is the case of a Missouri couple who are being charged with first-degree child endangerment after a January incident where their 4-month-old son lost seven fingers after their pet ferret chewed them off!

Ryan and Carrie Waldo are under investigation, and another young child in their home has been temporarily removed pending the outcome. It would seem that the pet ferret, a Christmas gift for their older children, had a history of biting the infant, but the family wanted to keep the pet. After all, what harm would a ferret really do?

Making matters worse, the parents claim to have been home during the attack, yet cell phone records obtained by authorities indicate the couple wasn’t at home during that time period. Clearly a court will decide what to believe, but things aren’t looking good for either of them.

I can’t imagine what the couple is going through to begin with regarding this incident, but I can’t help but wonder why the animal had access to the baby to begin with. I’ve never kept a ferret so I may be talking out of turn, but I would think one would be able to cage up their ferret while not at home, especially if it’s an animal that potentially has a history of biting the baby.
