This kind of weather was so much easier to take when I was 20.  It didn’t seem all that bad at 30.  At 40, I think I’m going to die.  I was just so sure it was only an age thing.  Then my wife reminded me that I’ve spent the last decade working in a nice, cool, climate-controlled environment.  I suppose that could have something to do with it.  The most shocking effect of this drought isn’t so much how it’s effected us two-legged creatures or even our lawns and gardens.  Replacing some flowers will be easy compared to what our area farmers and ranchers are facing.  Farming around here is all but impossible without a little rain.  And the impact that it’s had on our cattle industry is just as bad.  Ranchers have been forced  to sell off cattle that they would much rather have held on to.  But with tanks drying up, no grass and sky-high prices for feed and fuel, it only makes sense to take advantage of the fact that there are buyers out there.  Thank God the veggie-gobblers haven’t convinced the government to outlaw the consumption of beef.  The sale barns were busting at the seams last week. But the future is going to be tough if we don’t get rain soon.  The long term forecast isn’t looking so great for our area.  But if it would just cool down a bit, we fat boys and the remaining cattle will sure feel a whole lot better!
