A 3-month-old infant was found dead inside a vehicle in Geronimo, OK on Tuesday evening.

KFDX reports that Geronimo police were called to the Dollar General store in Geronimo after the child was discovered still strapped into her car seat but unresponsive.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has released the following statement:

At the request of the Geronimo Police Department, OSBI special agents are investigating the death of a 3-month-old girl.  Mame Neta Attocknie was left in the back seat of a vehicle for at least 9 hours Tuesday.

The child was in the custody of foster parents. The foster father failed to drop off the child at daycare Tuesday morning after he took his son to school.  The foster father, who works a night shift, went home and then to bed.

After work at approximately 4:30 p.m., the foster mother went to the daycare and discovered Attocknie was not there. She called her husband to check on the child.  Minutes before, the foster father sent his teenage son to the local Dollar General in the foster father’s vehicle where the child was strapped into a car seat.

Both foster parents rushed to the Dollar General and found Attocknie dead inside the vehicle.  Police and medical personal were called to the scene.  OSBI special agents spent the night interviewing foster family members and processing the vehicle.  The OSBI has not made an arrest.
