Keith Urban is offering fans the chance to perform with him as part of a cover contest called Best.Cover.Ever.

Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Nicky Jam are among the top-name stars who are taking part in the online series, which is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Endemol Shine North America. Urban has also signed on, explaining the opportunity to fans in a video posted to YouTube.

Urban is inviting fans to record a cover of his song "Somewhere in My Car," which became his 16th No. 1 hit on Billboard's Country Airplay chart when he released it as the fifth single from Fuse in 2014. The cover needs to be different from his recording.

"Do something cool, original, unique," he instructs.

Applicants need to film their cover version and then submit it at the contest website, following the prompts for uploading after reading all of the relevant rules and regulations. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 18, and the finalists will fly to Los Angeles, where they will get the chance to perform a duet with Urban in person. That performance will be filmed for later airing on YouTube.

"I can't wait to be part of this," Urban says. "Jump on it, good luck and I'll see you soon."

Urban is no stranger to performing with his fans; it's not unusual for him to bring audience members up on stage to jam at his live shows, which has resulted in some truly stellar moments. He's also deeply committed to music education, and in April he received the Recording Artists’ Coalition Award at the 2017 Grammys on the Hill ceremony in Washington, D.C., for his work providing instruments to underprivileged kids.

"The opportunity to work with aspiring musicians and kids, who are just discovering music for the first time, really inspires me," the country superstar said. "Creativity is at the heart of an innovative society — it brings people together and teaches children self-expression, creative confidence, and improvisational skills which are essential to their development. Being honored by the Academy, especially given the fact that they’re the ones that have given me the chance to be part of their work in this area, is humbling."
