The Rednecks with Paychecks Fall Mudcrawl is coming up September 29th through October 2nd in St. Jo, TX. This year they are celebrating five years of mud, rocks, music, and fun, but there will also be some big changes to this event that are much different than in the past.

Montague County commissioners approved a mass gathering permit yesterday for the upcoming festival. According to KFDX, this was part of new health and safety codes in the county that now require a permit for any events attracting 2500 or more people.

In the past, the event has attracted as many of 100,000 people over the four days of camping, live music, and off-road mudding events. Since 2015, there have been three fatalities involving ATVs at RWP.

In March of 2015, 10-year-old Nicholas Torres was killed when the 4-wheeler he was riding on struck a moving pickup truck. Earlier this year, a 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman both died as a result of separate ATV incidents.

Rednecks and Paychecks has also earned a bit of a reputation because of the numerous arrest that have happened each year. Disorderly conduct, DWI, and assault are the most common charges.

To increase the safety, the fire marshal recommended many changes that will be in place before this upcoming festival. The biggest change is that the event now has a minimum age of 18. There will no longer be children allowed at all.

Some other changes that guest will see this fall at Rednecks and Paychecks are a fence around the stage, minimum 20- foot-wide roadways, and fire extinguishers at all food vending sites. All changes are expected to be installed or in effect before the start of the event.

Tickets are still available right now for the upcoming event. Early camping begins September 17th. The event will run from September 29th through October 2nd. You can find more info and schedules on Facebook or at RednecksWithPaychecks.com
