Since Paul Walker's death in late November, a regular question has been the ultimate fate of his character Brian O'Conner in the upcoming "Fast and Furious 7".  Sources have reported that Universal has decided to retire the character and give O'Conner, and Walker, a fitting send off.

After Walker's tragic death, director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan, and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Universal's lead executive on the Fast films, looked over the footage already shot before Walker's death in order to decide how to proceed as Walker was a focal point of the film.  The decision was then made to delay the film's release by eight months to allow Wan and company rewrite the script, reshoot footage, and shoot new footage to create a respectable exit for Walker's character.

Common speculation was that Walker's character would be killed off, but that would probably hit too close to home for his fans, friends, and family.  The hope of the studio is to create an exit for Walker that will satisfy long-time fans and allow the series to continue in his absense.
