Fans Send Well Wishes to Joey + Rory Through ‘Digital Love Card’
As Joey Feek continues to live with her terminal cancer diagnosis, Joey + Rory's family, friends and fans have been showering Feek and her husband, Rory Feek, with love and prayers in many different forms. On social media, a hashtag has been started to give fans a quick and easy way to send their well wishes to the husband-and-wife duo.
Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #CardForJoeyRory on various social media when sharing their thoughts for the Feeks as they navigate through this difficult time. The hashtag, which is active on Twitter, Instagram and Vine, has been organized by Overstock.com, a company that Joey + Rory worked with in 2008 on a commercial campaign.
"Through that initial connection, and as the years have passed, we have witnessed firsthand their dedication to their art, to their work and to each other," a webpage about the hashtag campaign explains. "... Not only do they creatively and emotionally inspire one another, but their love story inspires us ... [T]hey continue to exemplify grace and tenderness in the face of difficulty; they embody faith and hope in the face of doubt and fear. Their love story is beautiful ..."
In late October, Rory Feek informed fans, via his blog, that his wife’s first round of chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Stage IV cervical cancer did not help; rather, two quarter-sized tumors had appeared in the same area that the doctors had been treating, and several more tumors had appeared in her abdomen. In light of that sad news, the Feeks stopped all medical treatments, returned to their Tennessee farm and canceled all of their Farmhouse Concerts that were scheduled for November and December. They have been spending time in Joey Feek’s hometown, visiting with family, friends and other loved ones, and in early November, Rory Feek revealed that his wife had entered home hospice care.
“Her pain and discomfort has continued to increase daily and so has the morphine to help her be comfortable," Feek wrote in early January. "The dosage she’s needed to keep the pain away has quadrupled in the last four days. I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing. But I can’t."
The husband-and-wife duo are set to release a new album, Hymns That Are Important to Us, in February, and Rory Feek says that the project will be not only the last for him and his wife, but his last as an artist as well.
“This is the last record that Joey and I will ever get to make and the last songs we’ll ever get to sing together,” Feek says. “I have no desire to go on singing or performing without her.”
Proceeds from Hymns That Are Important to Us will benefit the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation, in honor of the Feeks’ daughter Indiana‘s best friend Scout, who has Loeys-Dietz syndrome. The charity was selected by Joey Feek.
