The resident country singer on this season of 'American Idol' stayed in his comfort zone by singing John Michael Montgomery's 'Letters From Home' last night.

Scotty received a standing ovation from the crowd after serving up a healthy portion of his southern charm complete with his signature deep voice and upturned mouth.

Jennifer Lopez said,

“There are just some people who are born to do something — you’re born to sing country music...God blessed you with that. Don’t ever forget it.”

Steven Tyler commented that he thought Scotty's  performance was  “beautiful” and also told McCreery,

“I don’t think you could have picked a better song to represent who you are, and what you are, and the love you have for singing.”

Randy stuck with his original comment from Scotty's first audition calling him a “throwback country guy.”

Scotty said that after nine years of watching 'American Idol' it's "like a dream" being on that stage. Come Thursday night we will find out if America has embraced this country star in the making.

Will Scotty McCreery be able to hold on to this early momentum, even when the competition heats up with some hard-to-cover music themes?
