Retired Sergeant Brendan Marrocco, a 26-year-old who lost all four limbs by a roadside bomb attack in 2009, has been given a second chance with a successful double arm transplant. While serving in the U.S. Army, he suffered his injuries while serving in Iraq. Now he’s left Johns Hopkins Hospital with two new limbs, though he won’t have full use of them for a few years.

Doctors say that it will take time for the nerves to regenerate, but at this time he already has some mobility, shown when he wheeled himself into his press conference.

Marrocco told reporters:

I feel like I'm getting a second chance to start over. I'm just looking forward to everything I would have wanted to do over the last four years. I hated having no arms. I was alright with having no legs.
