Tex Ritter Earns An Oscar, Billy Ray Cyrus Taps His Toes – Today In Coountry Music History

Billy Ray Cyrus let his feet do the talking on this date in 2007, Josh Gracin had Nothing To Lose and the number one Country music song in the nation on this date in 2005 and Tex Ritter earned the very first Oscar given to a Country song way back in 1953.

  • Josh Gracin charted his first Number One single in Billboard with “Nothin’ To Lose” in 2005.

  • Neal McCoy scored his first Number One single with “No Doubt About It” in 1994.
  • Buck Owens & Rose Maddox recorded the classic “Sweethearts In Heaven,” in 1963.
  • Tex Ritter performed the theme from the western movie “High Noon” on the Academy Awards Show in 1953. That night, the song won as Best Original Song, the first country song to be honored with an Oscar.
