The Ugly Animal Preservation Society has announced that the votes are in and a winner has been chosen as their ugly mascot! The winner of the title is the blobfish, which happens to be so ugly it’s cute. Voters could choose between 11 critters, with each animal represented by a key supporter. Other animals involved in the campaign were the Proboscis monkey, Titicaca ‘scrotum’ water frog, greater short-horned lizard, flightless dung beetle, Dromedary jumping slug, British bats, pig-nosed turtle, kakapo, European common eel, and the axolotl.

The society was created because many mammals are boring and pretty, so they're looking to highlight the ugly creatures that are much more interesting. The video below explains the how and why of the society, and those who are bringing it to life.
