The second annual Watermelon Fest is coming back to Wichita Falls on July 27. It’s hosted by Downtown Wichita Falls Development and the Charlie Thornberry Farmers Market Association. The event will take place from 8:00am – 1:00pm at the Downtown Farmers Market (8th & Ohio), and they have lots of fun events planned for the day.

Here’s what you can expect when you arrive:

8:00am – 10:00 Sidewalk Chalk Contest

Think you have what it takes to draw space ships, puppy dogs, flowers, or a watermelon patch? Let your creative juices flow by taking to the sidewalk and creating something fun! In order to be considered for the contest you need to be there by 8:00am, so start thinking now about what you want to draw and arrive early!

11:00 Seed Spitting Contest

Watermelons are delicious, but we’ve all had to deal with those pesky seeds. Your mom always told you not to spit, and this is your chance to not only do it, but show that you can do it better than anyone else! Just try not to laugh at the person standing next to you, it might ruin your game.

12:00 Pie Eating Contest

Be sure to save some room for all that pie you’re going to eat! This contest is not only fun to participate in, it’s a lot of fun to watch! Contestants will getting down and dirty in the hopes of taking that top award.

1:00 Awards

Yup, if you’re participating in these events, they’re going to reward you for it!

Watermelon Fest is free to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. They’ll have treats for the kiddos and all the watermelon you can eat (while supplies last). The Farmers Market will also be open and selling fresh, locally grown produce. Support your local growers and get tasty stuff to take home!
