You'd think word would get around: traffic drugs up US 287 through Wichita County and your chances of being caught go up exponentially. To say that our Sheriff's Office has become proficient at catching drug runners would be a bit of an understatement.

Let's take one of the latest, for example. 27-year-old Jose Ramon Juarez-Moran was traveling through the county along 287 on Sunday, January 24 at around 8:30 pm.  A Wichita County Sheriff's K-9 Unit made a traffic stop near the intersection of 287 and Hwy. 258. The K-9 detected drugs in the vehicle and deputies found over 116 pounds of marijuana in a hidden compartment.

Juarez-Moran, who is from Mexico, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana over 50 pounds and under 200 pounds. As of Tuesday afternoon he remained in the Wichita County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
