Opening the October 22nd edition of Monday Night Raw, WWE's Roman Reigns announced that he's been diagnosed with leukemia again.

Speaking to the audience as Joe Anoa'i rather than his wrestling alter-ego, WWE's Universal Champion revealed that he had initially been diagnosed with Leukemia in 2008, and that the disease had returned.

Anoa'i noted that the disease went into remission quickly after his initial diagnosis, but the return its return is going to prevent him from continuing to perform for the time being, causing him to relinquish the Universal Title. Anoa'i stated he was optimistic about his chances and didn't consider this to be a retirement speech, but needs to focus his attention on his health and family.

After sharing a moment on the entrance stage with his Shield teammates, Anoa'i was filmed going backstage and being greeted by his fellow performers, with current on-screen enemies Paul Heyman and Brawn Strowman dropping character to hug their friend before he left the arena.

In the 24 hours since Anoa'i's announcement, there has been an outpouring of support from fellow wrestlers wishing Anoa'i well and praising him for his role as a leader in the locker room.
