First of all, let me point out that I admire the fact that the folks behind the Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) always set out to feature an eclectic lineup.

The legendary Austin City Limits TV series has always featured artists from a wide variety of genres, so it’s clear to me that the promoters are trying to capture the spirit of the series.

But with that being said, it makes for what I would assume to be a less than enjoyable festival experience for me – and I’m a fan of music from many different genres. I’ve never been one to listen to just one style of music.

The problem is that I can’t imagine sitting through so many artists that I’ve never heard of or don’t particularly care for while waiting for the ones I’m into. And this year is no different.

Out of the 90+ bands that are playing I would be interested in seeing a grand total of six: George Strait, Greta Van Fleet, Billie Eilish, Missio, Tanya Tucker and Asleep at the Wheel. That’s not worth the price of a single day General Admission to me.

The thing that stands out to me this year is that there aren’t as many big-time names on the bill. The festival usually has that going for them, at least.

The festival will span the course of the weekends of October 1-3 and 8-10 in Zilker Park. 3-day tickets went on sale at noon today but are already sold out. However, there are still resale purchase options at this location.
