Brett Young released his sophomore album, Ticket to L.A., earlier this month, and one of the early standouts is a duet with Gavin DeGraw. Young co-wrote "Chapters" with the pop superstar and country songwriter Ross Copperman, and the stirring piano ballad has the singer looking back on his life and realizing things aren't always perfect.

In the first verse, Young reminisces about his youth, playing baseball with his dad as his coach. "In chapter one, I was raised on the Dodgers / Every boy wants to be like his father / In little league, when he was coachin' me / I was hangin' on every word," he sings.

Later, he recalls a baseball injury that kept him from playing the sport he loves. "Things change in the blink of an eyelid / Guess my body knew way more than I did / Doc said you'll never play again / Worst thing I ever heard," he continues.

"Chapters" lightly features DeGraw — a man Young has not been shy about calling his idol. DeGraw assists on harmonies throughout and takes lead on the third verse. The reflective ballad has an anthemic chorus that shines with both Young and DeGraw's soulful vocals.

"There's no perfect life, you can't hold back time / But you hold on tight, hopin' you might find / Every page you turn is a lesson learned / Ain't we all, ain't we all just tryna get it right? / These are the chapters of my life," the hottest new duo sing on the chorus.

Young released Ticket to L.A. on Dec. 7. The title track is the album's lead single, which is at country radio now.
