American Idol alumni Cade Foehner and Gabby Barrett recently announced their engagement to the world, and they don't plan to wait long to announce their marriage.

In a chat with Hollywood Life that details the big proposal, the couple also shared that they'll say "I do" as soon as possible — they can hardly wait to be husband and wife!

"We haven’t set a date or anything, but we are going to get this shindig on the road as soon as possible! We are both excited to be married and start that life," Foehner reveals.

He popped the question in the room he met Barrett, at a church in Los Angeles where they returned to receive some pre-marital counseling. The pastor's daughter (from whom they were seeking counsel) was in on the whole thing — she fooled Barrett into thinking she was taking photos for her portfolio, when in reality, she was there to catch the proposal on film. She was able to create a diversion to stall while Foehner got ready to hit his knee.

"She starts taking pictures — and keep in mind I don’t expect or suspect anything — then she says, ‘Let’s take some pictures in that room!’ And then she says, ‘Hang on a second! I need to switch a setting on my camera! You guys can hang out for a minute ...,’" Barrett recalls. "Cade looks at me and starts saying all these super duper sweet things and I thought nothing of it because he normally does that all the time and I noticed he kept going on and on and then he said eventually, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you!’ And then he got down on one knee and popped out the ring from under a curtain and then I said, ‘Yes!’ And then we took real professional pictures because it was all set up and it was really fun."

As for why they opted to get premarital coaching at a church, Foehner says that he's very spiritual — his faith plays a huge role in his everyday life and especially his relationship with Barrett. "I am always trying to ground it (faith) in something that is pointing to the scriptures and the marriage relationship. The reason that marriage is what it is is because it is supposed to represent Christ and his church, so that is certainly the center of all that I will do until I die," he says.

After Season 16 of American Idol, on which they both competed, the happy couple is busy with their budding music careers. Barrett is currently promoting her single "I Hope" and has scheduled festival performances this summer, while Foehner just released his new song "Southern Hallelujah" and plans to announce a tour soon.
