Carly Pearce Brings the Sass With ‘Diamondback’ at the 2022 CMT Music Awards
Carly Pearce dazzled on the 2022 CMT Music Awards stage on Monday night (April 11), performing a seething and spunky rendition of her song "Diamondback."
Clad in a white and gold fringe-adorned dress, Pearce brought plenty of attitude to the fiery performance of her latest single. The 31-year-old Kentucky native's powerhouse vocals were on full display for the set, which she wrapped up with a sassy, knowing smile directed straight into the camera.
An upbeat, empowering breakup anthem, "Diamondback" comes off of Pearce's latest album, 29: Written in Stone. The leading track on the album, "Diamondback" has personal undertones for Pearce, who drew inspiration for much of her project from her divorce from fellow artist Michael Ray. Pearce co-wrote the song with Kelsea Ballerini, Tofer Brown and Shane McAnally.
Pearce walked into tonight's awards show a two-time nominee: Her collaboration with Ashley McBryde, "Never Wanted to Be That Girl," was nominated for Collaborative Video of the Year, while her performance of "Dear Miss Loretta" — another song off the 29 album cycle — earned a mention for CMT Digital First Performance of the Year, a brand new category.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards aired live from Nashville on CBS. Ballerini, actor Anthony Mackie and Kane Brown. The latter star is a new addition to the hosting lineup, after Ballerini tested positive for COVID-19 and had to reconfigure her hosting duties so she could appear from home.
