Carrie Underwood’s Husband Mike Fisher Did the Sweetest Thing for Maddie Font at the CMT Awards
Maddie Font from Maddie & Tae was out of sorts after her emotional acceptance speech at Monday's (April 11) CMT Music Awards. Fortunately, Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher were there to help.
Font accepted her duo's Duo/Group Video of the Year award by herself, with Tae Kerr present via video conference. Fans voted the "Woman You Got" video a winner in the category and upon hearing their name, the 26-year-old was fired up. She did a quick emotional pivot upon seeing Kerr's face on screen.
"I miss you so much, I can't do this without you," Font says. She goes on for nearly a minute, alluding to Maddie & Tae's struggles in recent years.
"I messed up the whole outro of walking offstage," Font said after the CMTs, per Billboard, "so Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike took a knee so I could sit in his seat. He was so sweet."
During the early portions of the show, Underwood was seen alongside Jason Aldean and his wife Brittney. It appeared she moved, but really, Font just took a seat on her left side. The two women forged a tight relationship in 2019 when Underwood brought Maddie & Tae on tour with her.
"Carrie, man, she brings the same kind of peace that Tae brings, which I don’t have," Font says. "So I really needed her tonight and she was there for me like she always is."
Afterward, the singer called her best friend of over a decade and they made a plan to celebrate. CMT captured that and shared the emotional — although hilarious — conversation on social media.
