Cassandra Peterson Working on Autobiography and New Elvira Movie
After a revival of her TV show was recently shot down, Cassandra Peterson announced that she's shifting her attention to making another Elvira movie.
In the current age of nostalgic television revivals like 'Fuller House', 'The Connors', and the recently announced 'Saved by the Bell' return, you'd think that the most recognizable woman in horror would be a perfect candidate to make a return to television. Unfortunately, both Netflix and the horror streaming service Shudder declined to pick up the revival of the B-movie showcase 'Elvira's Movie Macabre'. In an interview with JoBlo.com, Elvira (real name Cassandra Peterson) said she will be shifting her attention to other passion projects like working on her autobiography and another follow-up to the cult-classic film, 'Elvira: Mistress of the Dark'. Peterson, who co-wrote the original movie, noted that she's already worked on a script treatment,
My biggest issue that I'm having right now with it, I wrote a very detailed treatment of the whole movie. It's funny, I just spoke to one of my writers, Sam Egan, who worked on Mistress of the Dark, and told him about it, and he was making suggestions too, just the balance of horror versus comedy. I want a lot of comedy in it, but you need a horror element too. And I'm trying to work that horror element. It's hard to balance those two. It wouldn't seem like it. It's when you have a lot of comedy, you can seem like you're making too much fun of the horror, but it obviously needs a horror element. The major thing that's holding us up right now is how much horror to get in there among the comedy. It's a lot to pack in a movie. We could do all of what I have right now and the movie would be five hours long. That's the problem. Got to squeeze it all in there in like an hour and a half.
The original 1988 film failed at the box office, and earned Peterson a Razzie nomination for Worst Actress. However, it developed a cult following and a much-anticipated special edition blu ray of the film is set to be released in the US later this year. Peterson made another Elvira movie in 2001 titled 'Elvira's Haunted Hills'. Though it was made on a smaller budget and had a more limited release, many fans consider it to be superior to the original.
