Cold Front Brings Icy Temps to Texas
A strong cold front started moving into Texas overnight, bringing some big weather changes.
It's heading south and should hit most of the state by tonight.
Up in the Panhandle, West Texas, and the Permian Basin, you might see some light snow until early afternoon. There probably won’t be much on the ground, but if you spot even a half-inch, snow fans will be celebrating! Northeast Texas might get a little sprinkle later, and the Rio Grande Valley could see a storm pop up.
As the day goes on, gusty north winds will sweep through, making it feel properly like December. The skies will clear up as cold air settles in, making for a chilly night and an even colder start to Wednesday. Most of Texas, about 70%, will wake up to freezing temperatures, especially in areas from Eagle Pass to Victoria to Jasper. Depending on where you are—city or countryside—the cold might feel slightly different, but it’s going to be frosty no matter what.
Tomorrow things start to warm up, with highs in the 50s and 60s, which will feel way better. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures will jump back into the 70s and 80s, just in time for the weekend. Eastern Texas might get a little rain, but it won’t be anything wild—no big storms or blizzards are expected as we finish the workweek.
Looking ahead to Sunday night and Monday, there’s a chance for storms in eastern Texas with another cold front, but we’ll get to that later. For now, bundle up!
