Every now and then I stumble into something really fun and interesting that not too many people know about. Three Dog Books / Alley Cat Collective in downtown Wichita Falls is one of those things.

From unusual vintage furniture to old books to local artists' creations, to record albums (Yes! The flat, black, vinyl albums that spin at 33 1/3 rpm on your phonograph player!) you're likely to find it in this quirky little shop downtown.

Operated by Cody and Julie Ressell, the store is not hard to get to, just find the Wichita Theatre at 10th and Indiana, look across the street and go about half a block North. It's the old Texas State Optical building at 908 Indiana.

Actually, the building itself is interesting. The front door to Three Dog Books / Alley Cat Collective is what used to be TSO, but the store also takes in what was at one time a downtown movie theatre. The theatre entrance is obvious when you look at it from the sidewalk. Not too long ago it was a night club called Shock N Y'all. That explains some of the layout of the shop now.

Since there was already a stage at one end of the building, and since David Thompson is teaching guitar lessons from this location, it was only natural that a regular Open Mic event would come about. They're usually held on the last Saturday afternoon of the month and anyone is welcome to get up on stage. While the performers are most often singers and musicians, there are also poets and comedians from time to time. Jugglers are welcome, just remember, the ceiling over the stage is pretty low!

From local artwork to books to vintage items to inexpensive gifts (I know it's 100 plus outside, but it's NEVER too early to start thinking about Christmas!) you're gonna love what you find at Three Dog Books / Alley Cat Collective.
