Wichita Falls Firefighters Rescue Man From Grain Elevator Fall
I was taking my dog for a walk downtown last night, a little before 9 pm, when a whole bunch of firetrucks suddenly came flying down 7th street with their sirens blaring and lights ablaze. Turns out they were rushing to an old grain elevator on Lee Street after a man fell about 20 to 25 feet into a basement area.
The building is an old, concrete landmark you can see from 6th Street near Ohio Avenue by the railroad tracks. It hasn’t been used for years. I walked down to the train tracks and shot some video of the scene, which you can check out by scrolling down to the end of this article.
Fire crews save victim after 25-foot fall
Firefighters worked with paramedics from AMR to reach and rescue the man from the tight, hard-to-access space. Because of how deep and cramped the area was, crews had to use special ropes and rescue gear to get him out safely.

“This is exactly why we train and stay ready, to answer the call, no matter the challenge,” the fire department said in their Facebook post.
Grain elevators like this one are reminders of Wichita Falls’ history, but they can also be dangerous when people go inside or around them. The man was rescued and taken to get medical help.
