Enjoy This Video of a Frozen Backyard Waterfall in Texas
Lubbock, Texas, isn’t exactly known for its winter wonderlands. More often than not, the city is associated with dry, windy conditions and sweltering summer heat.

But every once in a while, nature has a way of surprising even the most seasoned West Texas residents.
Is This Texas?
A recent cold snap turned one backyard waterfall into a mesmerizing frozen display which you can check out for yourself by scrolling to the video below. The icy formation, seemingly frozen in time, looks more like something from a northern climate than a typical Texas backyard.
Arctic Air Mass
While temperatures in Lubbock can dip below freezing in the winter months, sustained cold spells long enough to freeze running water are relatively rare. According to meteorologists, the recent frigid conditions were the result of an Arctic air mass sweeping through the region, bringing temperatures well below normal for this time of year.
The Cold is No Joke
While this video is really cool I will point out the realities of winter weather in Texas. Mainly, the state’s history of struggling with infrastructure challenges during extreme cold. For now, though, the frozen waterfall remains a temporary work of art, a fleeting reminder that even in a place known for its heat, winter still has a way of making an entrance.
