You know my love for Buc-ee's when traveling, as of today the largest Buc-ee's in the world is once again right where it should be, in the Great State of Texas. And, in the place these jumbo travel centers began, in Luling, (pronounced Loo-ling). The ribbon cutting was today, and the Governor was there for it.

Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the strong Texas economy at the opening of the world’s largest Buc-ee’s travel center in Luling. This new 75,000-square-foot store replaces the original Buc-ee’s in Luling, which was the company’s first big travel center location. After the ribbon cutting, Governor Abbott toured the new store, including the stock room, kitchen, and main floor.

“As the state’s greatest fan of 'beaver nuggets,' I am proud that Texas is home to the world’s best convenience store,” said Governor Abbott. “With more than 200 new jobs and a $40 million investment, this Buc-ee’s is key to the future of Luling. This Texas-based chain now has locations across Texas and in states like Alabama, Colorado, Florida, and Georgia. They helped spread Texas hospitality, good barbeque, and beaver nuggets wherever they go. Texas is proud to be the homebase of the growing Buc-ee’s empire."

The release says the Governor was joined by Buc-ee’s President and CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, Representative Stan Gerdes, Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden, Mayor of Luling CJ Watts, former Mayor of Luling Mike Hendricks, and other state and local officials.

Speaking to a crowd of over 200 Buc-ee's customers and local leaders, Governor Abbott praised Buc-ee’s for providing good-paying jobs. He noted that Buc-ee’s is one of the top five U.S. retailers for entry-level salaries, with general managers earning up to $225,000 a year. The Governor also highlighted Texas as the best state for business because of its skilled workforce and reasonable regulations. Additionally, Governor Abbott mentioned signing the largest property tax cut in Texas history and said he will continue to push for more property tax cuts in the next legislative session. After the ribbon cutting, Governor Abbott gave Mr. Aplin a proclamation to celebrate the grand opening of the world's largest Buc-ee's.

Where Is Luling, Texas?

Luling is located off I-10 between Houston and San Antonio. (see map below)

Two Beaver Thoughts:

  1. Congratulations Luling on the world's largest Buc-ee's.
  2. Now, if we can just get them to replace that dinky one they have on I-45 just north of Huntsville with a larger one... or how about a second one across the highway from it? That would work too. Just a suggestion from the cheap seats.

Happy travels!
