Looks like we're in the early stages of potentially having passenger train service in Wichita Falls once again.

Wichita Falls Has Not Had Passenger Train Service since 1967

Back in the day, Wichita Falls was a passenger stop along a train route between Denver and Dallas. This service has not existed in many decades and many thought it would never exist again. Well it looks like Amtrak is in the very early stages of bringing this type of service back to Wichita Falls.

Amtrak Looking Into Bringing Passenger Rail Back to Wichita Falls

According to the Wichita Falls History Facebook page, the reason this service went away back in 1967 is because the train service lost it's contract with US Mail. Since the trains were making a ton of revenue off of helping deliver mail, the passenger service would apparently not make enough revenue to continue the trains. Well looks like this service could be coming back, but not anytime soon.

Wichita Falls Passenger Trains in 2034?

According to the President of the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce, Ron Kitchens. Amtrak is currently in the VERY early stages of bringing back this passenger train route that would run from Denver to Dallas, with a stop in Wichita Falls. The service would actually continue on past Dallas going to Houston. At the earliest, this service could start in 2032. Ron Kitchens told Times Record News, “It’s something we want to keep on the burner. If we can add one more arrow to our quiver that would be a good one to have.”
