Back in 2004, the Dallas Mavericks unveiled a new alternate jersey. It showed love to the classic Mavs green, while blending in the new blue on the sides. I actually owned this exact Dirk jersey seen above. I had no idea that Diddy was the one responsible for this thing.
Why Did Diddy Design a Dallas Mavericks Jersey?
According to a 2004 article from All Hip Hop, Mark Cuban befriended Diddy sometime in 2001. Cuban reached out to Diddy about designing a Dallas Mavericks jersey because his Sean John clothing brand was very popular at the time. The Sean John name could not appear on the jersey due to the NBA's deal with Reebok at the time. The reason for the design is because the Mavericks previous alternate jerseys were so hated.

Back in 2003, the Mavericks opened the season in Los Angles and a new jersey made its debut. In fact, it was the only time you would ever see this jersey. It was so hated by the fans that Mark Cuban never made the team wear it again. Cuban felt like Puffy's the hottest designer right now, and that's why we decided to work with his group. "He's the best. ... Puff is actually going to be personally involved in the process"
So that is why the Mavericks had the 'Diddy Threads'.
