More and more electric vehicles are showing up on the road, but imagine if you could charge them for free. That is happening for select customers in Texas.

Electric Charging Expanding in Texas

Driving across Texas you're starting to see more and more electric vehicle charging stations popping up. For those folks that use home charging units for their electric vehicles. Did you know Ford has partnered with TXU Energy to give you free charging?

How Does it Work?

Well it's pretty simple to start. You must be driving a Ford electric vehicle and you must also be a TXU customer. The program is currently good for these model vehicles, the Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and Escape Plugin Hybrid vehicles. It must be a 2021 model or newer according to the TXU website.

What's the Catch?

Well according to TXU, the free charging is only from the hours of 7PM to 1PM. The demand for electricity is much higher between the hours of 1PM and 7PM, due to the Texas heat. That is still 18 hours of free charging, which is more than enough time to get that vehicle back to 100%.

TXU Statement on Partnership With Ford

“This partnership with Ford fits squarely into TXU Energy’s broader strategy of educating customers on the benefits of owning an EV, removing barriers to making the switch, and increasing grid resiliency,” said Sam Sen, vice president of energy transition solutions for TXU Energy, in the release. “We are proud to support Ford’s Texas EV customers with flexible, free charging hours and the significant cost savings that come with it.”

We will wait and see how successful this plan is, but sounds like a good deal for Texans because TXU is only available here.
