Is it time for Texas to break up?

Not a lot of people know that Texas has the power to break itself up into as many as five states. That was part of the joint resolution by Congress when Texas was admitted into the Union in 1845.

So, I was interested when I saw that someone on Reddit suggested West Texas should be its own state due to it being so different from the rest of the state.

However, their definition of West Texas is very different from mine. As you can see in the below post, this person thinks Fredericksburg and Kerrville are in West Texas, but not Midland, Lubbock, and Amarillo. That’s a head-scratcher.

Admittedly, I was relieved that many people commenting on the post agreed with me. As much as I hate to admit it, there are times when I need positive affirmation via the internet.

All that aside, I couldn’t disagree more.

Mostly because of the old adage “united we stand, divided we fall.” There is strength in numbers, and I like the fact we live in the second-most populous state and would like it to stay that way.

But also because I think Texas has the coolest shape of all the states. That’s why there’s a Texas-shaped waffle maker in damn near every hotel in this state. Seriously, I’m disappointed when I don’t get to make Texas-shaped waffles while I’m road-tripping.

I find West Texas so different from the rest of the state I feel it deserves to be it's own state.
