This is just bizarre.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has been record-breaking rainfall over the last couple of days. The heavy rains have resulted in widespread flooding throughout the area.

That’s nothing unusual for this part of the country. It seems like we’re stuck in a drought, flood, repeat cycle here in North Texas.

But was is unusual is what happened to the field at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium after it flooded. A picture shared by Dallas Texas TV on Twitter shows a portion of the field that has swollen into a mound that ironically is shaped just like a football.

The Athletic’s Chris Vannini tweeted that SMU would have a turf company check things out after the rain ended.

He later tweeted a pic showing that the football field had pretty much returned to normal.

Of course, Twitter had a field day with the pic (pun intended).

The Cowboys 2021 season got off to a strong start with a close game against the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even though they lost the game, the Cowboys managed to keep it close, giving fans hope for a deep playoff run. They followed that game up with an impressive 6-game winning streak. However, things started to fall apart in the second half of the season, resulting in a disappointing home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
