
This Texas Town Is Home to One of America’s Ugliest Statues
A recent survey was conducted to determine the ugliest public art piece in each state, and the “winner” for Texas probably won’t surprise you. I say that because the ugliest monument in the Lone Star State has been the butt of jokes since its inception.
It takes guts to get into the statue-making business. If you get it wrong, there’s no going back. That ugly ass statue will be on full display for everyone to laugh at. It’s unfortunate because the nice ones never go viral, but the ugly ones never go away (see the Miami Dwyane Wade statue).

The Internet Made Ugly Monuments Impossible to Escape
But that’s the risk you take when you dip your toe into the monument waters – especially in the age of social media. There have always been cruel people in the world, but the internet has given every one of those people a platform to blast any and everything they feel inclined to. Yes, folks have lost their manners.
So, I would imagine the researchers at Rivers Wall Art had no shortage of responses when they surveyed 2,000 Americans in search of the nation’s ugliest pieces of public art. People have no problem providing negative feedback.
Sugar Land’s “Selfie Statue” Takes the (Ugly) Crown
On the bright side, while some states had more than one monument on the list, Texas had only one monument on the list. On the flip side, however, the Selfie Statue in Sugar Land is considered one of the ugliest in the country, ranked among the 20 ugliest pieces.
