Josh Turner Delivers Uplifting Live Gospel Classic, ‘I Saw the Light’ [Watch]
Josh Turner has one of country music's most distinctive voices, and his deep baritone is particularly resounding when he puts it to gospel music, as evidenced in his recent performance of Hank Williams' "I Saw The Light" at Gaither Studio.
Turner sings the beloved classic straight, except for a slight twist: He works in an unexpected minor chord at the end of the chorus, giving the song an updated, modern feel. Fans can watch his cover above.
The cover will be included on Turner's upcoming gospel album, I Serve a Savior, which is set for release Oct. 26. Turner, a devout Christian, says making a gospel album has been a longtime dream of his.
"Working on this project has definitely been a God-ordained blessing. I never would have thought I’d be doing this record this year, but God opened a door and I walked through it,” he says in a statement. “I’ve seen many seemingly impossible things take place during the making of this record and I’ve felt God’s anointing over it.”
I Serve a Savior will include both classic and original songs, as well as two of Turner's previous hits, "Long Black Train" and "Me and God."
