Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Calls for Volunteers, Gives Grants for Giving Tuesday
Our favorite animal-advocate country singer, Miranda Lambert, decided to shake things up for Giving Tuesday.
Instead of asking her legions of fans to donate to her 501c3 nonprofit MuttNation Foundation, she decided to ask them to commit to volunteer for a day at their local animal shelter on Tuesday (Feb. 26). Subsequently, three of the shelters that received Lambert's volunteers were randomly selected to each receive a $1,000 donation on behalf of their volunteers.
“We didn’t know if one person or 100 people would rise to the challenge and were thrilled by the response of 399 rescue-loving folks who signed on. Nothing makes me happier than to see people actively participate in making a positive difference at their local level,” Lambert says in a press release.
These Country Singers Have Gone to the Dogs
“We could not do what we do without our volunteers,” Paul Robinson of Morning Meadow Animal Rescue in Fordyce, Ark., says. The shelter was one of the three selected shelters to receive the grant. The other two rescues receiving MuttNation grants are BARC Humane Society of Palestine, Texas, and Dogwood Animal Shelter of Osage Beach, Mo.
Lambert and her mother, Bev Lambert, founded MuttNation Foundation in 2009. They are a donation-supported nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the adoption of shelter pets, promote spaying and neutering and educate the public about the benefits of these actions. The foundation also works with transport partners to assist and relocate animals under threat of euthanasia and during times of natural disasters.
MuttNation is encouraging everyone to go volunteer at their own local animal shelters. When you do so, be sure to tag MuttNation in your social media posts.
Lambert recently made headlines of a different sort when she abruptly announced that she had recently married. Her new husband is an NYPD officer named Brendan McLoughlin, and after the explosion of publicity from their union, the singer told reporters she wished people would "mind their own f--king business."
