We've been hearing a lot about the Navy SEALs lately. These guys are amazingly fit and incredibly smart.

I went to broadcasting school with someone who had just finished his time as a SEAL. For most of the semester nobody knew. We just knew him as "Grizzly" because he looked just like Dan Haggerty from the TV show Grizzly Adams.

Then one day everyone's perspective changed.

It was the day one of the students got his nose bent out of shape over something and started causing a scene. Before we knew what was happening, Grizzly had him against a wall, completely subdued (but unharmed) and quietly listening to Grizzly telling him to settle down. That was the day we all learned that Grizzly had just finished his time as a SEAL.

As I mentioned earlier, he was incredibly smart, possibly one of the smartest people I've ever met, incredibly talented at almost everything he tried and one of the most fun people you'll ever be around. He was the first person to take on a new project in class, the first person to help someone who was struggling, the person who always knew what to say to brighten someone's day. He also made it through SEAL training.

It'll give you a new level of respect and admiration for anyone in the Special Forces roster from any branch of our military.

We truly live in the land of the free because of the brave. To all who have ever put on a uniform for the United States of America, thank you.
