Runaway June May Pull a Kanye West If Carrie Underwood Doesn’t Win CMA Entertainer of the Year
"If she doesn't, we're gonna Kanye West this event," RJ's Naomi Cooke says, referring to the time the rapper famously stormed the stage to tell people Beyonce deserved the MTV VMA won by Taylor Swift in 2009.
"She's getting an award," Hannah Mulholland adds before Jennifer Wayne joins in to say that it will come from either the CMAs, or them.
"If Garth wins," Cooke continues, "We're gonna be like, 'Garth, we're gonna let you finish but Carrie Underwood had the greatest tour of all time!'"
Wayne's smile and context of the moment indicated they weren't really serious. Probably. Maybe.
But hey, they may have company — Kelsea Ballerini also said (in jest, we assume) that she'd join Runaway June in storming the stage.
Fans of Runaway June May Fall In Love With Caylee Hammack:
Runaway June spent 2019 on tour with Underwood. Along with Maddie & Tae they opened nearly 60 dates on the Cry Pretty Tour, an expansive show that featured a giant 360-degree stage with 15 elevators. Off stage they became friends, and RJ acknowledge the impact the Entertainer of the Year nominee has had on their career.
"She's such an incredible entertainer, I know people know that," Cooke says. "Her professionalism, the respect that she has from her band and her crew. I mean, every single person — there's probably a couple hundred people on that crew — and every one respects her. She really walks this tight rope of how to balance those relationships while still being boss and a business woman."
