Ryan Hurd Tries to Escape a Broken Heart in ‘Michigan for the Winter’ [Listen]
Ryan Hurd is running away from heartbreak in his new song "Michigan for the Winter."
"Michigan for the Winter" is a mid-tempo breakup song that finds Hurd heading north for "a change of scene / 'Til the seasons change." He's hoping "a little space or a little time" will help him forget a lost love — but he's also holding out a bit of hope that she'll come after him.
"Just in case you want to change your mind / I'm letting you know where you can find me / 46th Street, that first right turn / Down the dirt road, watchin' that wood stove burn," Hurd sings in the chorus. "I'm either waitin' out your memory / Or for you to want to come back to me / Whichever comes first."
Hurd is signed to RCA Records Nashville (and married to Maren Morris!) and has been working on his career as an artist for a few years. He released his first single in August of 2016 and followed it up with a four-song EP in the spring of 2017.
"I have no idea when it's coming, but we've got a whole record recorded," he tells Taste of Country. "As soon as they say, 'Press play,' we're ready to go."
Hurd's next radio single is "To a T," which also features background vocals from Morris. He'll spend the early months of this year headlining some shows of his own.
