
Ominous Supercell Forms During Texas Tech Game in Lubbock
As thousands gathered in Lubbock on Saturday to watch Texas Tech take the field, the most dramatic performance didn’t come from the players. Overhead, a crazy looking supercell thunderstorm formed on the horizon and slowly made its way toward the stadium.

Dramatic Storm Clouds Roll Over Texas Tech Game in Lubbock
For people who don’t know, supercells are giant thunderstorms with rotating updrafts. That rotation is what makes them so notorious. They’re the kinds of storms that can create hail the size of baseballs, damaging winds, and even tornadoes. They’re not something you want hanging over your Saturday night plans, even if those plans involve football.

In West Texas, though, storms like this aren’t rare. The flat land and wide skies often make for incredible, if sometimes scary, weather events.
