A huge storm cloud, called a supercell, showed up near the Oklahoma-Texas Panhandle border this week, and this sucker was absolutely gorgeous. You can see it for yourself by scrolling to the video at the bottom of this article.

Storm chaser Freddy McKinney recorded the video and posted it to X yesterday and I've probably watched it ten times already. The cloud looks like something out of a painting, but it’s also the kind of storm that can be dangerous.

Beautiful supercell near the Oklahoma-Texas Panhandle border

Supercells are thunderstorms with spinning updrafts, which means the wind and air inside are twisting as they rise. These storms can drop big hail, create strong winds, and sometimes even form tornadoes. While people living nearby need to be careful during storms like this, many can’t help but stop and stare at how dramatic the sky looks when it happens. It's me. I'm the type of person who has to stop and stare.
