Texas Driver Films Lightning Hitting His Car
Man, talk about bad luck!
The guy in the video at the bottom of this article was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This went down in Wharton, Texas. I know, I have never heard of that place either, apparently it is southwest of Houston. Also, you apparently are not safe from lightning strikes when you drive through that bad boy! 😬⚡️
Let's break down the footage.
Lightning Strikes Car in Texas Caught on Dashcam
So, this person was driving through a thunderstorm, recording all that Mother Nature had to give with his phone, when all of a sudden, several lightning strikes hit the ground right in front of him. Then, one of them seems to strike his hood directly.

One of the commenters claims that there is no way the lightning actually hit his car because it would have burnt him to a crisp. I'm not so sure that's true. Cars have rubber tires, which I was always told grounded them and would keep electricity from traveling through the car. Plus, you are sitting on leather or cloth seats, holding a steering wheel that is usually wrapped in either leather or polyurethane
But most importantly, the metal shell of a car acts like a Faraday cage, a closed conductor that redirects electrical currents around its outer surface, preventing them from passing through the interior.
Regardless, if you can avoid it, it's a lot safer to wait for a storm to pass, so I wouldn't risk it unless it's absolutely necessary to travel.
