Texas Gas Prices Drop as 2024 Ends
Gas prices in Texas have dropped by about 4 cents per gallon in the past week, bringing the average down to $2.58 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. But here’s the catch: prices are still about 6 cents higher than last month, though they’re 6 cents lower than this time last year.
Yesterday, the cheapest gas station in Texas had prices as low as $2.19 per gallon, while the most expensive was $3.79—a huge $1.60 difference! Across the country, gas prices are averaging about $2.98 per gallon, which is down 3 cents from last week.
Lots of Ups and Downs
Looking back over the years, Texas gas prices have definitely seen some ups and downs. For example, on December 30, 2020, gas was just $1.93 per gallon in Texas, while last year at this time, it was $2.79. The highest it’s been in the past decade was $2.87 in 2021, and the lowest was $1.75 in 2015.
2025 Fuel Price Outlook
According to Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy, the national average is expected to stay pretty stable for now, although some areas might see slight changes. GasBuddy will release its 2025 Fuel Price Outlook soon, with predictions on what we can expect in the upcoming year.
