There seems to be no end to the lineup of great live music headed our way this summer! We've got Miranda Lambert with special guests Stoney LaRue and Merle Haggard performing at the Fort Sill Polo Field in Lawton for their Independence Day celebration; we've got Brad Paisley coming to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco on July 30th (with your chance to win tickets here on Lonestar 102.3); and it's just been announced that Texas / Americana music legend, Joe Ely, will be playing right here in Wichita Falls on Thursday night, June 23rd, at the Kemp Center for the Arts.

First off, I love shows at the Kemp Center, it's one of my favorite places to hear live music. The Great Room is an amazing venue for an intimate concert event (You'll want to arrive early so you can scope out the artwork on the walls and the sculpture garden outside), and it's a non-smoking facility, something I've come to appreciate more and more every year. For shows like this there will be a cash bar and the opportunity to pick up a CD or two from Joe. You might even get his autograph as most of the artists playing the Kemp Center stick around to chat with their fans after the show.

And secondly, Joe Ely is simply awesome! He's been making music and touring the world with his unique brand of Texas / Americana music for decades, his first album was released in 1977; he's worked with Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore as part of The Flatlanders; he was asked by Buddy Holly's drummer, Jerry Allison, to play Buddy's part in The Buddy Holly Story, a screenplay he was writing for 20th Century Fox, only to lose the part to Gary Busey; he's appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman twice and Conan O'Brien's show once; and he's coming to Wichita Falls later this month.

Tickets are just $25, the doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:00. You couldn't beat a show like this if you lived in Austin!

Contact the Kemp Center for the Arts to make your reservation! These tickets are gonna go fast!

Here's a sample of what you'll see and hear.
