‘The Voice': ‘Magical Country Cowboy Unicorn’ Jake Hoot Sings Trace Adkins Classic
On Monday night, (Nov. 25) the 11 remaining Voice contestants continued their way in the Finals round, where as last week, they performed live for coaches coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and John Legend, as well as for America's votes. This evening's twist came in the form of Fan Week, in which fans were allowed to choose the songs each finalist brings to the stage.
An easy fan favorite this week was Team Kelly's Jake Hoot, who has legions of fans clamoring "Hoot, Hoot, Hoot" like a flock of owls on caffeine. His coach, of course, had no problem teasing him. "Has Hooters reached out to you?" she inquired, referring to the restaurant chain known for its scantily clad servers.
"They have," Hoot replied good-naturedly, to which Clarkson shot back, "They have great wings."
In all seriousness, Hoot noted, "Getting this support has been incredible. I got to sing the national anthem at Tennessee Tech University. I played football there. They had my face on their Jumbotron!"
Clarkson turned serious as well: "There's a light about you," she noted. "America is just falling in love with you; you're the nicest guy. Please don't ever become a turd. I'll punch you," she threatened, to which Hoot retorted, "My mom will as well." Clarkson, overcome, declared Hoot a "magical country cowboy unicorn."
With all that...what's not to love? Especially when Hoot took on "Every Light in the House," by Trace Adkins. After his confident performance, coach Gwen Stefani was the first to rave.
After referring to Adkins as her "homie," Stefani continued, "Honestly I've been a fan of yours from the beginning," she said. "I thought you were this diamond in the rough. There's something so comforting about your voice."
That was nothing compared to what Clarkson had to say. "I love Jake Hoot y'all," she crowed.
"Every time you open your mouth to sing, I am reminded of just every part of my childhood that was awesome. You're so nostalgic. You're such a great storyteller, it's like you naturally have a microphone in your throat...You're a really great human as well I'm so blessed you're on my team."
We'll be following along each week to keep up with the Season 17 competition, so be sure to check in weekly to check the progress of your favorites on the show.
