Tim McGraw to Release Political Book, ‘Songs of America’
Tim McGraw has teamed up with Pulitzer Prize-winning political historian Jon Meacham to release a new book, Songs of America: Patriotism, Protest and the Music That Made a Nation. The book will focus on analyzing music that was created during politically fraught times.
According to Rolling Stone Country, the book is set to release on June 11 and will showcase the soundtrack of the eras during the American Revolution, Great Depression and the civil rights movement. McGraw will focus on a more personal approach on how music is created as an artist, writer and producer himself, whereas co-author Meacham (who is a political science professor at Nashville's Vanderbilt University) will detail each era, the political landscapes and culture of the time the music was created. According to an Amazon listing, the book will cover times during the release of hits including as "The Star-Spangled Banner" and Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A."
Meacham is a presidential historian and political writer who has contributed to the New York Times and Time magazine, and was even the Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek at one point.
According to the Tennesseean, McGraw and Meacham met in 2015 when Meacham became that year's recipient of the Nashville Public Library Foundation's Literary Award. McGraw was in attendance at the event, and the pair discussed Meacham's book, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.
This isn't McGraw's first literary undertaking, McGraw released a self-help book titled Humble and Kind in 2016, which was inspired by his single, "Humble and Kind." This November, McGraw will publish a health and lifestyle book titled Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life. The book will detail his journey with weight loss and making a healthier lifestyle for himself.
McGraw is not becoming a full-time author just yet; this summer he will be traveling the country music festival circuit performing shows. This April, McGraw will headline a special free concert in downtown Nashville for the NFL draft.
