Troopers Cracking Down on Unbuckled Drivers in Texas
If you're riding in a car and you're not wearing a seatbelt, you’re taking a serious risk, and Texas troopers are cracking down on it.
In 2024, more than 1,100 people died in car crashes across the state just because they weren’t buckled up. That’s like losing almost an entire high school. And this year isn’t looking any better. So far in 2025, nearly 400 people have already died in crashes where they weren’t wearing seatbelts.

That’s why state troopers are stepping up patrols from now until June 1. They’re not giving warnings. If they catch you not wearing a seatbelt, you’re getting a ticket. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the front or the back, in a small town or a big city, if you’re in a car, the law says you have to buckle up. Period.

This is all part of Texas’ "Click It or Ticket" campaign. You’ve probably heard the phrase before, maybe on a billboard or a commercial. But it’s not just a slogan, it’s about saving lives. Wearing a seatbelt might seem like a small thing, but it’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself in a crash.
A lot of people think they don’t need to wear one if they’re just going a short distance. Others believe they’re safer in the back seat. But crash data proves that’s not true. Car accidents can happen anywhere, at any time. And your seatbelt is your best defense.
