Fall is finally here in Wichita Falls, and one local spot is celebrating in the sweetest way possible. They are having a dang ol' cobbler baking contest and my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Midwestern Healthcare Center will host its “Makin’ Your Heart Melt Cobbler Contest” on Wednesday, October 15. The event runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and welcomes both bakers and tasters. Participants can bring their best homemade cobbler recipes to compete for prizes, or simply arrive with an appetite and enjoy the flavors of fall.

I am going to do the second one.

Here are a few fun facts about cobbler:

American Classic: Cobblers became popular in the U.S. during colonial times when settlers didn’t have ovens fancy enough for pies, so they just “cobbled” dough on top of fruit.

Easy Peasy Dessert: Cobbler is considered one of the easiest desserts to make. There is no rolling crust, just drop it on top!

Regional Twists: In the South, cobblers often have a biscuit-like crust, while in other regions, they might use a cake-like or even puff pastry topping.

Not Just Fruit: While fruit cobblers are the classic, some creative chefs make savory cobblers with vegetables, cheese, or even chili on top!
