Woman Caught Under Sudden Dust Devil in Texas
A dust devil formed directly on top of a woman walking through a parking lot in San Antonio, Texas. Actually, it kind of formed around her. The crazy footage can be seen in the video at the bottom of this article.
Now, before you start thinking this was an actual tornado, don’t worry. Dust devils might look a little scary, but they aren’t nearly as dangerous. Unlike tornadoes, which come from storms, dust devils form when the sun heats the ground, causing hot air to rise quickly. If the conditions are just right, that air starts spinning and picks up dust, creating a mini whirlwind. Most of the time, they only last a few seconds and aren’t strong enough to cause real damage.

The woman in San Antonio didn’t seem too bothered by the unexpected dust bath. After the dust devil disappeared, she brushed herself off, laughed, and told people nearby that she’d never been caught in something like that before.

Meteorologists say Texas gets plenty of dust devils, especially in dry, open areas. While they can grow pretty big, they’re usually harmless. If you ever find yourself in one, the best thing to do is cover your face and wait for it to pass. Or, like this woman, you can just go with the flow and enjoy the unexpected ride.
