So, it's November 11th, 2011. What's the big deal?

Well, historically, November 11th is when the Allied Forces from World War I celebrate the armistice with Germany. That doesn't mean that the war was over, but that hostilities were ceased. The document for the armistice was actually signed several hours earlier, around 5:00am, but it didn't take effect until the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

November 11th was celebrated as Armistice Day until 1954, when President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day, and that's how we know it today.

If that is a little too cerebral for you, just think about this. Shortly after 11:00am, it will be 11:11:11 on 11/11/2011.

That's just cool. In fact, there's a facebook event to honor the occasion.

Whether you mark the occasion by flying your flag in honor of the sacrifices made to protect freedom around the world, or by raising your coffee cup in a toast to the unusual series of numbers, remember to set your alarm for 11:11am or you just might miss it.

And don't forget to thank a Veteran today on our Veteran Salute Board.
